henry the navigator was an important figure in the early days of the portugese empire. He was developing the european xploration and maritime trade with other continents. Henry was the third child.
On 25 May 1420, Henry gained appointment as the governor of the very rich Order of Chris, the Portuguese successor to the Knights Templar, which had its headquarters at Tomar.
